Welcome to Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome!

Castel Sant’Angelo is one of Rome’s most iconic attractions, offering a unique combination of history, architecture, and spectacular panoramic views. Located on the right bank of the Tiber River, this historic castle attracts over 2.3 million visitors each year.

Why visit Castel Sant'Angelo?

Castel Sant’Angelo welcomes over a million visitors annually, making it one of Rome’s most essential attractions. Originally commissioned by Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family, the popes later used the building as a fortress and castle, and it is now a museum.

The panoramic terrace at the top of the castle offers one of the most dramatic views in Rome. As the city unfolds around you, you can make out all the important buildings of the historic center, and the top of Castel Sant’Angelo offers the city’s best view of St. Peter’s Basilica.

Castel Sant’Angelo is more than just a museum—it’s a window onto 2,000 years of Roman history. Here’s why you should visit:

– Fascinating History: Built in 139 AD as the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian
– Impressive Architecture: A unique blend of Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance styles
– Panoramic Views: A terrace offering 360° views of Rome
– Rich Museum: Collections of art, frescoes, and historical artifacts
– Ideal Location: Close to the Vatican and the historic center
